Wonderful workshop with Richmond Mind Clients

On Tuesday 23rd July 15 people from Richmond Mind attended our workshop at Pensford Field.

We first spent time inside learning about the scientific evidence for the mental health benefits of nature, and understanding why spending time in nature is so beneficial for mental wellbeing. However, we then spent most of the day outside participating in activities designed to increase connection with the natural world. These included exercises engaging all the senses, walking in a slow and mindful way, learning how to notice nature’s details, and walking blindfolded and barefoot to focus on nature’s sounds and the feel of nature underfoot.

It was an extremely hot day and we shared a lovely picnic lunch together in the shade of Pensford Field’s trees, and as a final exercise enjoyed lying on mats and ‘being rained on’ to cool off! We ended the day back in the studio with poetry, and a discussion about how we can all Increase the amount of time we spend engaging with nature in order to improve our mental wellbeing. Many thanks to all the people who attended the workshop for their open and positive attitude towards the day, and their enthusiastic participation in all the activities.
